REVIEW: WHAT HAPPENS IN TEXAS BY CAROLYN BROWN
What Happens in Texas by Carolyn Brown
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
The good, the bad and the funny. What Happens In Texas let's it all hang out. Ms. Brown does things differently by exploring the love lives of multiple couples. Twin sisters to be exact. Marty is more care free and self-absorbed she thrives on being the center of attention, while Cathy has more reserved outlook on life. Cathy knows what she wants but is afraid to reach for it and make her fantasies a reality. Nothing a little good-natured matchmaking and the right cowboy can't cure. With her small towns, spunky characters and heartwarming stories Carolyn Brown creates an alluring blend of comedy, drama that has an organic appeal. The sweetness and sentimentality of her novels is what keeps me coming back.

ARC Review: Test Drive (Body Shop Bad Boys) by Marie Harte
Johnny wears his bad boy title like a medal of honor. That in itself is temptation personified. What pushed me over the edge? His body language and attitude are contradictory to his actions. When he cares for someone or something, he gives his full attention. Lara was about to get an up close and personal look at the makings of this complicated man. Lara has one objective and it does not include looking for trouble. When trouble comes looking for her, she has to decide if the danger is worth the payout. The Body Shop Bad Boys series is off to a wickedly sexy start.

One Lucky Hero by Codi Gary
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
ARC Review: One Lucky Hero (Men in Uniform) by Codi Gary
Codi Gary is not one to shy away from hot button issues. That point is made abundantly clear throughout One Lucky Hero. From a young age life was not easy for Violet. A drug addict father, dealing with her mother's suicide and taking over the rearing of siblings was alot of responsibility for someone who missed out on the innocence of childhood. One night of escape, could end up being her saving grace or her biggest mistake. This is not the fluffy, stars in your eyes, Prince Charming romance. One Lucky Hero is a story of hard knocks, heartbreaking reveals and gritty dialogue. The truths are excruciating to say the least. The enduring legacy of One Lucky Hero is that a make-believe scenario, can end up helping someone facing similar situations in the real world. With this story Ms. Gary is making a difference and there is no greater reward than that .

REVIEW: SADDLE UP (HOT COWBOY NIGHTS) BY VICTORIA VANE
Saddle Up by Victoria Vane
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Sex and no substance. I have read a few stories by Ms. Vane in the past months and although I find them enjoyable and entertaining, many have lacked the depth needed to make them unforgettable. Saddle Up took me by surprise because it stayed true to the author but gave added layers into her talent as a writer. I received an ARC of this sensuous read in exchange for an honest review. It was hard not to cheer for these characters. The odds are not in favor of Keith and Miranda but it feels as if a higher force is pulling the strings, helping them along the way. Keith has to learn to accept his heritage and be the best person he can in order to find his happiness. Miranda has to blaze her own trail as well. The wild spirit of the animals loved by both, the beautiful surroundings that are as descriptive and turbulent as the characters themselves and this breathtaking story have me rethinking my original opinion. This time she got it right.

REVIEW: HANGING BY A THREAD (RILEY O' BRIEN & CO.) BY JENNA SUTTON
Hanging by a Thread by Jenna Sutton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I could not give Hanging by a Thread a five star review. Although I ultimately warmed up to the characters and the story itself, the slow start made it touch and go for a while. The O'Brien siblings were a joy. Teagan comes across somewhat flighty, Quinn thrives on being the older sibling and Cal seemed to be a little lost. The affection that they displayed for each other is evident in every interaction between them. Hanging by a Thread is Cal's story and Bebe's story. Bebe has book smarts but is lacking in matters of the heart. An arranged engagement and a chilly relationship with her family has left her lonely and in doubt of herself as a woman. Teagan, her best friend and the O'Brien family have become a lifeline. Her surrogate family, but her feelings for Cal (Teagan's brother) are anything but familial. Cal and Bebe run hot and cold. When Bebe's unwanted fiancee starts making demands, she decides to take a chance. I received an ARC of Hanging by a Thread in exchange for an honest review. A slow start proved a large hurdle but a the O'Brien family proved to be the saving grace for this sassy, sexy and funny story.

Third Base by Heidi McLaughlin
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Celebrity has great highs but there are also an abundance of lows. It's all in how you play the game. Heidi McLaughlin's Third Base explores the triumphs and tribulations of living in the spotlight. Ethan is spirited, HOT and self-absorbed. Daisy is more complex. She's full of focus but hard to get close to. Even harder to understand at times. When she allows glimpses of her true self to bubble to the surface, she is also fascinating. The undercurrent of suspense and the enigma that Daisy presented was what proves most absorbing for me.

REVIEW: SET IN STONE (SECOND CHANCE) BY KELLY COLLINS
Set In Stone: Second Chance Series by Kelly Collins
My Rating: 4.5 of 5 stars
Sometimes circumstances beyond an individuals control force them to make rash decisions. Kelly Collins' Second Chance series is about people who are seeking redemption despite actions and choices that cost them greatly. I had the pleasure of reading an ARC of Set in Stone in exchange for an honest review. One split second, cost Megan her freedom and threw her world into chaos. Now faced with the opportunity to rebuild a life away from the confines of prison, she must come to terms with her lot in life and forgive herself in order to move forward. Have not read many stories from Ms. Collins and Set In Stone would not have been a story I would have taken a look at normally. However, neither character was what they seemed to be. Yes, Meghan was an ex-con but there was more to the reason behind what lead her to commit such a desperate act. Killian was a piece of work in many ways but his feelings stemmed from insecurities. Set in Stone is a story that has heart and gives hope to every person who has struggles that are hard to overcome. Turns out Ms. Collins surprised me with this under the radar contemplative novel.

ARC Review: Interference (Pilots Hockey) by Sophia Henry
My introduction to Sophia Henry and her Pilots series was through Power Play. Gaby and Landon had a meaty story but there was a disconnect for me. So I decided to try again with Interference. Ms. Henry is consistent in her willingness to tackle subjects that are painful. From the beginning she delivers that one, two punch. Complex people facing their demons and working to overcome them. Jason has baggage that has followed him into adulthood. From abandonment and trust issues, to an attraction that pulls the scab off a partially healed wound. Linden has worked to become a responsible young woman. An act of rebellion in her teens left her with more responsibility than she expected and the shame of disappointment. Interference redeemed Sophia Henry in my eyes. Sympathy, empathy and hope are the stepping stones to an amazing and inspirational story.
