ARC Review: Duke of Deception (The Untouchables) by Darcy Burke
With a stroke of the pen Darcy Burke sets the stage for an intricate tale of duplicity. Everyone has an agenda, the lure of the story is figuring them out. Aquilla is her own woman, or so she hopes to be. Wanting a chance to be more than someone's wife or mother, she sets in motion plans that will forever ruin her chances at finding a suitable match. Too bad doing so is proving more complicated than she thought.
Aquilla has more personality than previous heroines I have come across in historical romances. She tries to hide her true self but has trouble extinguishing the spark. Complex characters are what I live for, so the contradictions that Edward and Aquilla presented made for an intriguing past time. Duke of Deception reads like a puzzle waiting to be solved. The pieces are all there waiting to reveal the big picture. You just have to know how to put them together.

I am a sucker for sentimental. I have a tendency to cry at a Hallmark card or a sappy commercial, so Kissing Mr. Mistletoe appealed to me just from reading the blurb. Trace and Monique journey may not be a long one but it is laced with loneliness and heartache. Monique works herself to the bone to provide a life of happiness and security for herself and her daughter. Trace keeps himself busy to drown out the loneliness that has taken hold deep down in his soul. Can a trip home to tie up loose ends provide a new beginning for this duo? I read a number of books and authors in my spare time and for me a winner is a book that touches so deeply that I find it hard to walk away from. With Kissing Mr. Mistletoe, Kate Kisset put herself in that category.

Tucker is the adventurous twin. Her choices have been risky and shock worthy to many but the thrill of the unknown for her outweighed the people she hurt. Now older and wiser from the life experience under her belt, the adrenaline rush of excitement has become the reflective voice of regret. The Christmas Challenge had it's share of growing pains, but it also learned from them. That is the takeaway from Tucker and Laird's journey. It takes more strength to face down fears than it does to run away from the pain of regret. To forgive and be forgiven was the ultimate reward in this story of redemption.

Through Celi - Bet, Leslie North uses fame, fortune, heartbreak, humour and a dose of reality to deliver a meaningful message. Live life to the fullest with an open heart, a giving spirit and empathy for others. The message may seem redundant but that doesn't make it any less important.

Laguna Beach has noteworthy written all over it. The notoriety of a hit reality show and it's unforgettable stars still lingers despite the passage of time. The scenic location is home to celebrities as well as less noted people with big dreams and hidden tragedies. Dreams Come True spotlights two such individuals. Erin sought to leave her heartbreaking memories of her hometown behind and start fresh, but family obligations and everyday expectations derailed her dreams. Jake has a successful business doing what he loves but his hopes of having a equally fulfilling personal life have fallen flat. An accident and a chance meeting has these two deeply motivated dreamers looking to the hands of fate. Dreams Come True in Laguna is a quick read with the with the writing to back it up. The selling point of The Doctor's Christmas Proposal was that sense of family that leaps right off the page and into your heart. One of the greatest feelings to have to fall in love and be loved in return. Cheesy but so true and Eve Gaddy captures that feeling with Wyatt and Mia.
