SYNOPSIS
When Weston Hatfield rides back into town like he owns it, I don’t want anything to do with him.
I definitely don’t want to take the mean boy from my youth out on my tour boat.
Or laugh with him as we watch the whales play in the Bay.
Know what else I don’t want to do? Fall for him.
He’s an NHL superstar…I’m a girl who knows her way around a lobster boat. Can you say opposites?
But I like who I am, and you know what? I’m beginning to think he likes me for who I am, too.
Until he does the one thing that proves otherwise…the one thing I’m not sure I can come back from.
REVIEW: THE ROOKIE (PLAYERS ON ICE # 10) BY CATHRYN FOX
The Rookie by Cathryn Fox
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
A spicy tale of second chances, hot romance and past regret that will stir something deep within the heart. He's trying to live down his past mistake. She's trying to forget the worst decision she ever made. With the odds stacked against them and the town secretly rooting for them, odds are good that things are about to get complicated. The Rookie is my favorite type of read. Small town romance drowning in heart, hope and humor. Fox turns a heartbreaker into a heartwarming romance.

EXCERPT
“You’re all dirty,” I say.
“You don’t know the half of it,” he warns and slides one big hand around my neck. Shivers race down my spine as he angles his head and presses his lips to mine, and just like that, I lose myself in his kisses. His tongue meets mine, and he tastes me, takes me, and groans into my mouth. Excitement that I can do this to him dances in my nervous stomach.
His hand falls from the back of my neck, and he gathers my hands and secures them behind my back, holding them in place with one big hand and my pulse jumps. He eyes me. “Don’t like that?”
“I…I…it’s different.”
“You’ve taken care of yourself for a very long time now, haven’t you?”
“Yes.”
“In the bedroom too, right?”
“Right.” Why not admit it. His goal is to pleasure me and I’d be a fool not to be honest.
He runs his fingers down my neck, and slides it down my side, caressing the outer edge of my breast. My entire body quakes. “Are you afraid of me?”
“No.” Not entirely true. This man is proving to be kind and sweet and I might be a little afraid of growing feelings for him. I can’t do that. We live in different worlds, and I’m pretty sure his heart still belongs to his ex.
He studies my face, and after a long moment, he says, “If I asked you to put yourself in my hands and trust me, do you think you could do that?”
I gulp.
He exhales, his warm breath flutters against my skin, a mixture of marshmallow and minty toothpaste. “Better question is, do you want that? I want you to be honest with yourself. Out here, in the middle of nowhere, can we just be two country kids with nothing to hide?”
His voice snags, and something in the way he called us two country kids, like we’re more alike than not, strikes a chord in me. Is that who he wants to be when he’s with me? A small town farmer, over an NHL superstar?
I glance at the big bed behind me, and my brain settles, liking that idea. Suddenly ready and eager for this to happen, I begin with, “You asked me what I wanted.”
He stares at my mouth, “I did.”
Here goes nothing, and everything. “From the second you walked into the Lobster Pound, I wanted you, Wes Hatfield. I wanted you naked. On top of me, beneath me, in front of me and even behind. I want to do things with you that I’ve never done with anyone and I want you to do things to me that I’ve never heard of.” A big breath and then, “I want your mouth on me, your fingers inside me. I want you to fuck me until reality is no longer in my vocabulary.”
He grins. “I love a girl who knows what she wants.”
“It’s what I want, while we’re here on this island.”
“You love it here, don’t you?”
“It’s my Disney world,” I say with a laugh. “Reality doesn’t exist, just fantasy, so while we’re here, we can live in that fantasy,” I say, needing to clarify where we stand. I don’t want him to think I want more when this is over.
Do you want more, Charlie?
